Biography:

After finishing the degree in Physics at the University of Barcelona (UB), I performed an internship at the ESRF, the European Synchrotron in Grenoble (France), where I worked on the mounting and commissioning of a custom atomic force microscope (AFM) to be installed in x-ray beamlines. In 2014, I received my master in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from UB as well. My MSc thesis was conducted at the Nanoprobes and Nanoswitches group of the Bioengineering Institute of Catalonia (IBEC), with the focus on studying the influence of a glycosphingolipid on the morphology and nanomechanics of model lipid membranes by means of AFM. Right after, I started my PhD in Biophysics at the same IBEC group under the supervision of Dr. Marina I. Giannotti and Prof. Fausto Sanz. My PhD research was based on the characterization of the physicochemical and structural properties of model lipid membranes, combining AFM, AFM-based force spectroscopy and x-ray grazing incidence techniques.  To be able to combine these techniques, I regularly traveled to the ESRF for short stays as well as to perform the x-ray experiments.  I completed my PhD in 2018 (cum laude) and started as a new post-doc in the group of Prof. Ilja Voets.
