Biography:

I have obtained my Bachelors in Physics from the University of Tehran, during which I got hands on experience in building optical setups and simulations in order to quantify aberrations in lenses. I followed up my studies by working on my masters at the University of Akron. This period was when I decided to explore the application of physics in other areas of research and joined a physical chemistry lab. I had a chance to work with optical microscopy to study vesical-protein interactions. I became fascinated by the world of nanosized particles and their applications in fields such as chemistry and medicine. I worked at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, in a bio-physics lab under the supervision of Prof. Jennifer Ross, studying self-repelling active particles and their potential applications in drug delivery. To this end, I utilized TIRF microscopy, microfluidic devices, image analysis, and Differential Dynamic Microscopy.
I joined Voets group in 2020 and will be working on my PhD in this vibrant group hoping to develop analysis and quantification techniques to better understand the science and application of functionalized colloids.

Research interest:
I aim to quantify colloidal surface functionalization, their distribution and predict accurately the position of functional groups on nanoparticles. I will evaluate how these topographies will affect the characteristics of colloidal systems and alter them to enhance their performance in sensing and drug delivery applications.
